THE YOUTH WILL LEAD THEM

     Our youngest, Philip, when he was only fourteen, went as a young teenager with a missions team to Honduras for a week. Their task was to build a playground and a gazebo for Mission Honduras in Trujillo. All the rest of the team were adults. He fared pretty well, but we spent thirty minutes each night on Facetime. He was a little overwhelmed at being by himself in a large hotel room with no one to talk to at night. So we enjoyed getting his debriefing of the day and hearing about the hard work and the challenges that he faced.
     He went with a small group to speak at some schools and participated in small groups so that students could practice their English.
     He also had brought along two big boxes of pancake mix, and so he was told he was welcome to get up early and help prepare the pancakes for the team one day for breakfast. Which he did.
     His favorite interaction was with the village children who followed him around like the Pied Piper. Wherever he worked or wherever he walked there was a group of children nearby.
     It was a growing experience of giving to others, striking out on his own, and witnessing another culture and the struggle that life entails for many on our planet.
     His story has just begun.
